Question/Answer relate to palm oil

Question
Dear Sir, I will soon go on retirement and hope to invest into palm oil and palm kernel processing without a plantation. Please I need your candid advice how to begin on a small scale.
Answer
I am afraid that if you are seriously planning to build a factory to process PO and PKO you will need a lot of expert advice from a consultant, certainly much more than I could give you on this site. I shall write to you privately. Regards, Frank Pantzaris
Question
Dear sir, Indian Government has increased the Costom Duty on refine Palm oil by 5%, so kindly suggest me what reaction will be made by Internation Oil Market in coming days.
Answer
Dear Mr Agrawal, India has had high import duties on PO for a long time and it did not stop PO making gains there. The PO price these days is much lower than that of other oils and I do not think 5% extra duty in India will have much effect internationally, although it will have some effect in the Indian market.
Question
Dear Mr. Frank, What is the difference between Crude Palm Oil and Crude Palm Olein (more of which is now being imported into India).
Answer
Dear Mr Narayan, The main difference between PO and Palm Olein is that PO has a melting point of 37C while olein has melting point below 24C. In tropical countries like India, it will be liquid or at least pourable, and can be sold in bottles and cans. It competes in the liquid oil market. Regards, Frank Pantzaris
Question
Dear Mr. Frank. I think technical analysis is more useful then fundamental in futures market. Because fundamental do not tell what price to enter. But in stock market, we may value the company, and when the share price is under value, just buy wihthout tenhical analysis. What do you think, sir?
Answer
Dear Mr Jimmy, I agree with you about the oil market in regard to prices in the near future, but as the time horizon stretches more into the future fundamental analysis becomes increasingly important. As regards the stock market, I am afraid that even if you can value a company it will only be your opinion and others may give it a different valuation. Some sectors of the market remain overvalued or undervalued for many years. Remember the technology bubble in 2000? Regards, Frank Pantzaris
Question
Dear Sir, I am in retailing business in edible oil. I always surf for daily market trades of palm oil and soyoil along this line. Where can I find coconut oil. I will appreciate very much if you could help me along this line. Thank you. Sincerely yours, Adolfo.
Answer
Dear Mr Lim, You say you are a retailer in oils and I am only familiar with big suppliers. Please give me more details about the quantity of CNO you want, packaging, your country and the port of delivery.
Question
Dear Sir, I will like to know producers of passion fruit oil, for importing into Ecuador. Sincerely yours, Miguel Seelig, Quito-Ecuador.
Answer
Unfortunately I do not know of any suppliers of passion fruit oil. It is a very small oil with special nutritional and medicinal properties sold in health food shops and pharmacies. I have an idea that it is produced in the USA. I suggest you contact the USA trade commissioner in Ecuador and he will help you find an exporting company there. Regards, FP
Question
Dear Sir, I want to know what is the best specification of the palm oil, palm stirene and palm kernal oils could be used for making the soap. And who are the best suppliers in Malysia or Andonisia who has the best quality for the same. Wael.
Answer
Dear Mr Solaiman, The best specifications of oils for your purpose are: RBDPO PORAM standard and RBDPKO MEOMA standard. I am sure you will understand if I cannot recommend one company in preference to others in public, as they are all my friends, but some of the best companies are members of PORAM and MEOMA in Malaysia. Best regards, Frank Pantzaris.

Please advies on the Coconut Virgin Oil market and their price stability. Any new applications have been found for this oil.
Question
Dear Mr Singaam, I am sorry but the prices we follow do not include coconut virgin oil. It is a very small oil in world terms and very little is published about it here. I would expect that its price will follow broadly that of crude CNO which in turn tracks that of PKO, but it is a fine flavoured speciality fat and it moves in its own higher price plateau. About new applications and markets I could give you some brief advice on a private consultation basis if you contact me directly. Regards, Frank Pantzaris.

EXPLAIN THE PRICE BEHAVIOR OF PALM OIL FOR THE NEXT 45 DAYS.
Answer
Dear Mr. Venkatachalapathy, Unfortunately I cannot answer your question, and I can assure you no one can. Prices are influenced by so many factors which also change in weight, that the task is far beyond our grasp. It is also beating the super computers at the London School of Economics. Of course I have my opinion on the matter, but it would be very unwise of you to risk your money on it.
I can only advise you to read all the news you can find on the subject and then make up your own mind. There are some good sources of information, such us Oil World, Reuters, this site, the MPOB site etc. The futures prices from Boursa Malaysia are also very useful. Futures players are among the most sophisticated traders any where. The current prices of oils and fats in general, are much above their 5-yr average and so the risk of their falling is high. Also PO futures have been falling recently. On the other hand total oil stocks at Rotterdam have been on a downward trend and the discount of PO against SBO is unusually wide and could start narrowing. Experienced traders say that if they can guess right 60% of the time they think they are doing well. Best luck. Frank Pantzaris.
Please be assured that no one can predict price movements whether of the stock market or of commodities. There are too many variables, too many unpredictable factors and human nature being what it is, makes things worse. That is why traders have to keep informed on everything that can influence prices and then make up their own mind. A subscription to Reuter and Oil World and frequent visits to Malaysia will help! Then if you can be right 55% of the time, you will be doing well. Best luck. Frank Pantzaris.
Question
Dear Sir, Im a chemistry student in ITB Indonesia. Im working on a research, and i need to know the composition of palm oil. I-ve been searching, but i can only find the fatty acid composition, so i really need your help. Thanks for your attention. Looking forward for your reply. Sincerely yours, Vera
Answer
Dear Miss Vera, The information you need is quite extensive and this site is only for short answers. Please contact MPOB in Malaysia www.//mpob.gov.my. But I really recommend you buy a good book like "Vegetable oils in Food Technology" editor Frank D Gunstone, Blackwell Publishing. Regards, Frank Pantzaris
