Micro-fuel savings isn’t just about reducing gasoline consumption in our automobiles, it’s also about reducing oil consumption in our automobiles. The traditional blanket oil change recommendation over the past decade suggested drivers should change their automobile’s oil every 3,000 miles. And although quickie-lube shops and dealerships like to push the idea that motor oil needs be changed every 3,000 miles, it is usually not necessary unless the vehicle is driven under extreme conditions, or the manufacturer recommends it. And with today’s automobiles, many manufacturers recommend changing oil at intervals of 7,500 miles or longer, not 3,000, which means two or three fewer oil changes per year, per driver, saving a total of more than 100 million gallons of oil annually.
