India: Export demand gives pomegranate growers cause to celebrate

Rising demand for pomegranates on the European markets, particularly in Spain, are giving growers in Davangere province reason to celebrate, but it is a source of frustration for some consumers who are finding the current prices too expensive.
The current price is anywhere between Rs 1,500 and 2,000 per dozen, with a single fruit worth Rs 100.
The Davangere province is the chief growing area for Indian pomegranates, which enjoy a good reputation amongst European consumers. Currently 15,000ha are in cultivation for the fruits.
