The global black tea production has dropped 1.31% in 2011, compared to the previous year, according to the data available with Global Tea Brokers, the international tea consultants & authorized auctioneers of Tea Board of India.
Reportedly, all major producing countries, except India, reported a lower output.
Global Tea Brokers director Rajesh Gupta told Business Line that global black tea production fell to 1931.16 million kg, compared to 1956.74 million kg in 2010.
According to the tea board, Kenya's tea production in 2011 declined to 21.10 million kg from 377.90 million kg in 2010.
Indonesia's tea output for the year 2011 was 10.70 million kg, Uganda's was 6.96 million kg, Malawi's production reached 4.50 million kg and Sri Lanka reported 3.06 million kg in 2011.
India stood as the only country recording an increase in production, where South India's production declined to 240.88 million kg and North India was the only region where production of black tea has increased to 747.45 million kg.
Collectively, India's tea output in 2011 reached 988.33 million kg, up by 21.93 million kg, compared to tea output in 2010.
