Kerala seeks more rubber replanting subsidy from Centre

(Commodity Online): The State Government would give priority for rendering support to the Rubber sector, said Sri. Oommen Chandy Chief Minister of Kerala here on Tuesday. He was inaugurating the curtain raiser programme of the Silver jubilee celebrations of the formation of Rubber Producers’ Societies (RPSs), in Kottayam

He said that his Government had urged the Union Ministry to increase the replanting subsidy for rubber cultivation as suggested by the Rubber Board. His government would take steps to support the RPSs, through the Village, Block and District Panchayats, he added. Kerala could develop only through agricultural growth and rubber sector now occupied the pride of place in the state.

The Rubber growers should keep their association with the RPSs vibrant not only when the prices are low but also should keep constant vigil so that the achievements in the sector are sustained. The leadership of the Rubber Board and the confidence of the growers had helped the growth of the RPSs, and the role of the Rubber Board in helping the growth of the sector was admirable, said Sri Oommen Chandy.

Sri. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Minister for Revenue presided over the function. He said that rubber sector was the backbone of the state economy and the growers could achieve many things through their organisational power, through the RPSs. He also released the logo of the Silver jubilee celebrations on the occasion.
