Human Induced Soil Degradation
Posted by Labels: environmental sustainability, soil, Soil Erosion, sustainabilityHumans commonly partake in activities that lead to degradation of the worlds land resources. These resources are the basis of sustained food security. According to The Global Assessment of Human-Induced Soil Degradation (GLASOD) "damage has occurred on 15 percent of the world's total land area, mainly resulting from erosion, nutrient decline, salinization and physical compaction." The results of these impacts has led to reduction in crop yields. The impact of degraded soil may have the greatest affect on countries who are dependent on agriculture for their incomes.
