Before the finance minister presents the state budget next year, another budget would be presented for his department.
On Tuesday, agriculture and marketing minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil told the Vidhan Parishad that from next year there might be a separate budget announced for the state's agriculture.
He was replying to the calling motion on the farmers’s plight.
Members had pointed out that there was a separate agriculture budget in Karnataka.
The minister also said that the state would develop Jayagad port on the Konkan coast to enable transportation of mangoesby sea instead of road. Members said mangoes were damaged due to the poor conditions of the roads, which harmed the farmers' income.
He said as a pilot initiative, the state will set up a mango board in the Konkan, where some of the state's best known mangoes are grown. He said state would look at setting up boards for cashew and coconut too.
The state government will also set up 81 automatic weather stations to alert farmers about weather changes.
