Top End banana farm hoping for price rise

The Northern Territory's biggest banana farm is hoping prices will increase soon, otherwise it won't be worth picking fruit for the interstate markets.
Australia is facing a glut of bananas at the moment thanks to a flood of fruit coming out of Queensland.
Mark Smith from the Darwin Banana Farming Company says at the moment he's only got enough fruit for the Darwin market, and prices there are ok.
But when his production increases in a couple of months, he says prices will need to improve to make it viable to send fruit elswhere.
"Banana prices are shocking at the moment and we'd be losing money on each carton if we sent them away (interstate)," he says.
"In six to eight weeks we'll have quite a bit of volume to send away, so hopefully the price does come up... because we wouldn't bother sending anything away until prices come up a little bit."
