TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines – The successful implementation of the province’s mushroom production under the Income Creating Opportunities thru Technology Project (ICOT-P) in Sta. Cruz National High School (SCNHS), San Miguel, Leyte has inspired its implementers to extend coverage of the program to farmer-entrepreneurs in the area.
This new ICOT-P technology is seen as one of the successful programs implemented under the Leyte provincial government’s intervention program for the benefit of graduating secondary students without means for pursuing a college education, in order to arm them with alternative livelihood skills.
With success in growing mushrooms, SCNHS teachers led by Principal Ofelia Alcober, who also serves as project manager of the mushroom technology program, says it is high time to share the technology to farmers in the area so that they could also benefit from growing mushrooms.
