MEDAN- United Development Party (PPP) House of Representatives (DPRD) of North Sumatra provincial government expects to review the plan of expansion of oil palm plantations to 1.5 million hectares.
Hope is the Chairman of the PPP faction Fadly Nurzal North Sumatra in the plenary session with an agenda memorandum opinion on the financial end of the factions and local budget 2012 in Medan North Sumatra, Wednesday, December 21, 2011.
According Fadly, North Sumatra DPRD PPP faction saw indications "oil fever" has permeated society, even down to the bureaucracy.
This phenomenon can be seen a plan to expand oil palm plantations which now number about 1.2 million hectares to 1.5 million hectares.
He said he expects North Sumatra provincial government could address the conditions that, while reviewing the expansion plans.
This is because the expansion would further reduce the amount of forest that needs to be maintained for the survival of 12 million more residents of North Sumatra.
Based on data obtained PPP North Sumatra, the area of forest in the area was probably only about 35.47 percent from the previous extent of which is 42 percent.
The ill effects of the reduced number of forest area is beginning to be felt by society often appear warmer temperatures in North Sumatra, especially in Medan.
"While in the rainy season, there was a flood as we feel in this December," he said.
In addition to forest loss due to become palm oil plantations, Sumatra PPP faction also highlighted the use of government land by some PTPN who allegedly had expired right to cultivate (HGU) it.
He said he expects these lands handed over to the Provincial / District Government / local municipal government to be distributed proportionally to the surrounding community.
That policy needs to be taken in order to land that had been depleted HGU it does not cause horizontal conflicts among the people.
He said he was concerned because of land disputes in North Sumatra does not go over, even including the more cause new problems.
"To that end, North Sumatra provincial government should give special attention to the problems that land," he said.(Ant)/Eksp
