HAVANA (AP) -- The Cuban government is authorizing farmers to sell their products directly to tourist hotels and restaurants, eliminating the need to go through a government redistributor.
The measure will also let buyers and sellers negotiate their own prices. Payments will be collected in Cuban pesos rather than in the local convertible currency.
It does not authorize growers, rural cooperatives and state-run agricultural businesses to sell directly to the island's growing ranks of independent private restaurants and other small
businesses.
