(The Malaysia Star) KUALA LUMPUR: Biomass has the potential to deliver about RM30 billion in new income to the country's economy by 2020 with more potential that can be generated from palm oil waste as part of a new strategic industry.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said in a speech during the launch of BioMalaysia 2011 and the 2011 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial and Bio-Energy on Monday that the country could reap the benefits as the largest palm oil exporter because palm oil waste alone held tremendous opportunity and potential for the creation of high-value industrial applications.
He added that this included biofuels and bioplastics, both of which were generated from biomass.
“Clearly, biomass or rather th process of creating value from it, has the capacity to create a new strategic bio-economy industry for Malaysia,” he said.
