KLSE Review : KL shares make modest gains on mild buying

Kuala Lumpur: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended higher yesterday, supported by mild buying.

 

 

At the close, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI) rose 4.83 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 1,503.07.

 

The benchmark index had opened 3.97 points higher at 1,502.21 and hovered between 1,499.59 and 1,504.63.

 

Dealers said the local bourse was generally supported by buying interest in selected heavyweights and low liners.

However, further gains were capped as most investors stayed on the sidelines ahead of the release of second- quarter gross domestic product and July consumer price index figures.

 

Gainers overwhelmed losers by 453 to 255, while 309 counters closed unchanged and 478 others untraded.

 

Some 892.81 million shares valued at RM1.6 billion changed hands compared with 1.29 billion shares worth RM1.97 billion on Tuesday.

 

The Finance Index rose 50.87 points to 14,296.19, the Plantation Index gained 6.1 points to 7,339.62 and the Industrial Index added 18.82 points to 2,762.80.

 

The FBM Emas Index rose 32.57 points to 10,313.05, the FBM Mid 70 Index advanced 6.23 points to 11,321.73 and the FBM ACE Index increased 57.09 points to 3,897.74.

 

Hap Seng Cons-Wa was among the active stocks, closing up 9.5 sen to 50.5 sen. Among heavyweights, Maybank rose 9 sen to RM8.68, while CIMB and Sime Darby gained 1 sen each to RM8.15 and RM8.88 respectively.

 

Of the top gainers, Esso Malaysia jumped 61 sen to RM4.95 and Sindora rose 28 sen to RM2.93.

 

Volume on the Main Market decreased to 619.15 million shares valued at RM1.55 billion from one billion shares worth RM1.93 billion on Tuesday.

 

Turnover on the ACE Market rose to 201.42 million units worth 37.68 million from 191.71 million units valued at RM29.13 million previously.

 

Meanwhile, the FBM KLCI futures contracts on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives also ended firmer in line with the cash market's modest gains.

 

August 2011 rose 11.5 points to 1,498, September 2011 increased 11 points to 1,493.5 and December 2011 added 2.0 points to 1,489.5. March 2012 fell 60.5 points to close at 1,489.5.

 

Turnover declined to 6,966 lots from 10,640 lots on Tuesday, while open interest was higher at 20,047 contracts from 19,126 contracts previously. - Bernama
