This surge in "microalgae-oil-to-biodiesel" interest is accredited to two media events that explained the present and future status of biodiesel as an alternative fuel, which is based on feedstock oils from food sources such as corn oil and soy oil versus non-food microalgae oil. Algae can produce 50 to 100 times more oil per acre than food oils crops.
