Brazilians drank more coffee last year.
The South American country's consumers were seen drinking 19.7 million 60-kg bags of coffee in 2010/11, up 3.1 percent, Brazil's coffee industry association Abic said Tuesday.
Consumption over the November-October industry year came in below the expected 5 percent announced early last year by Abic, as global supplies for mild arabicas remained tight and prices high.
Consumption in 2012 was expected to rise 3.5 percent to 20.4 million bags, slightly above economists' projections for economic growth in Latin America's largest economy this year.
Per capita consumption of roasted coffee in Brazil, the world's second largest consumer after the United States, reached a record 4.88 kilograms, up from 4.81 kg the year earlier, ABIC said.
